One Living Room, Four Feelings: How to Use New Dulux Blues in Your Home

You know how our living rooms have to do everything? One minute it’s a calm space for a cup of tea, the next it’s a noisy playground for the kids, and then it’s where the whole family gathers for a movie. It’s a lot to ask of one room.

I was just looking at the new Dulux Colour of Year 2026 and had a thought. What if, instead of one look, my living room could have a few different feelings? The theme is all about blue, and not just one blue, but a whole family of them.

And honestly, I'm obsessed with the possibilities.

For when you want that burst of energy…

There’s this one colour, Free Groove. It’s this deep, vibrant indigo that just feels… alive. It’s not a shy colour at all. It makes me think of music and laughter. I’d totally paint the main wall you see when you walk in with this. It feels like a party, but a cool, stylish one. Imagine it against some light wood furniture. So good.

For when you need to escape the heat…

Then there's Slow Swing. Ahh. This colour is my favourite. It’s that soft, hazy blue-grey, like the sky right before the rain. You know when the sun is blazing outside and all you want is a cool, dark room to relax in? This is the colour for that. It’s instant peace. It’s like telling the heat and the noise to just wait outside for a bit.

For those cosy, rainy evenings…

And for the other mood, there’s Mellow Flow. This is a deep, comforting blue. It’s the colour that makes you want to curl up on the sofa with a good book while it pours outside. It's not dark in a scary way, but in a warm, "hug-in-a-can" way. I’d use this for a TV wall, it would make movie nights feel so much more special and intimate. This is one of those blue colour combinations that just works with soft, yellow lamp light.

But what if you can’t decide?

Here's the best part. You don’t have to pick just one. This is the fourth mood: the "I want it all" mood.

You could paint most of the walls in that calm, hazy Slow Swing™. Then, be brave and use the dark, cosy Mellow Flow™ on just one wall. Then, maybe paint the inside of a bookshelf or a little nook with the energetic Free Groove™ as a fun surprise. It would make the room feel so much more interesting and personal.

I don’t know, I just feel like these colours get it. They get that our homes need to be as flexible as we are.

So, what mood is your living room in today?
