How to Create a Striking Feature Circle on Your Wall

Follow these eight steps to paint a feature-framing circle that highlights your accessory:

  1. Check the walls: Ensure your walls are smooth and free from imperfections. Fill any cracks or bumps with wall filler and let it dry.

  2. Prepare the wall: Clean the wall to remove dirt and grease, especially in kitchens. Use sugar soap or mild detergent for a thorough clean.

  3. Get your kit ready: Gather string, measuring tape, masking tape or pins, a pencil, and scissors.

  4. Measure out the circle: Decide on the size of the circle. Measure the radius and cut the string to that length, leaving extra for the loop. Pin or tape the other end to the center.

  5. Draw the circle: Place the pencil in the loop, pull the string taut, and draw a smooth circle. If you make a mistake, simply erase and try again.

  6. Paint the circle outline: Use your chosen accent colour and a small brush to carefully paint the border inside the circle. Clean up any mistakes with a damp cloth while the paint is still wet.

  7. Fill it in: Paint the interior of the circle using circular brush strokes. For larger circles, you may want to use a roller.

  8. Apply a second coat: Once the first coat dries, apply a second coat. For dark colours, you may need a third coat. Step back and enjoy your newly painted feature!
