How to paint wooden furnishings
Painting wooden furniture can be an enjoyable and fulfilling project, whether you're updating a well-loved table or restoring a family relic. It's a really simple and quick way to refresh a space or incorporate a new colour scheme.
Paints:
Wood primer
Top coats
Essentials:
Brush
Masking tape
Paint tray
Sander / Sand paper
Roller
Sponge
Vacuum cleaner
Additional items:
Cloth
Degreaser
Paint stirrer
Screwdriver
Spray bottle
Place your furnishings in the centre of the protected working area before you begin to avoid any damage. After that, hide or unscrew all hinges, knobs, and handles.
If the furniture has previously been painted or varnished, use medium grit sandpaper to gently sand it to create a smooth, absorbent surface.
Using a small brush for the corners and a small roller for the larger surfaces, apply a coat of wood priming. Before applying your primer, remember to give it a good stir!
To prevent runs and sags in the top colour, evenly apply two coats of satin finish paint. Sand down lightly between layers for a professional finish, and check the paint tin for drying periods in between coats.
